EMDR/Heart-Centered
Hypnotherapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories (Shapiro, 1989a, 1989b). When a traumatic experience occurs, all sensory aspects of the experience is stored in the brain. It is not stored at the level of words and language and therefore is resistant to healing through talk-therapy. According to the EMDR Institute, Inc., “After successful treatment with EMDR therapy, affective distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and physiological arousal is reduced.” New calm and peaceful brain pathways are created and reinforced while the distressing pathways are desensitized and reprocessed.
Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy - another way to heal the subconscious mind. The Wellness Institute states, “The subconscious mind contains 90 percent of the mind and within that 90 percent is the deeply held key that unlocks the client’s individual inner guidance.” Working with the subconscious mind heals the issues that keep people stuck in all areas of their life and contributes to anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-esteem and relationship issues.
Energy Psychology
Energy psychology has been scientifically researched and has been found to be a very effective modality for healing. Science has demonstrated that dis-ease and psychological issues include a disruption of energy within the mind-body system. Energy psychology considers the whole person which includes the relationship of energy systems to emotion, cognition, behavior and health. These systems include energetic activity of the nervous system and heart, and the energy of emotions. Different healing exercises are used to balance the body-mind in a coherent way. These exercises may include chakra balancing, meditation, tapping on specific acupuncture points. There may also be a spiritual component to the healing of energy systems.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness exercises teaches individuals to become aware of their thoughts and feelings so the person is in control instead of the negative thoughts and emotions. This takes practice as we are functioning unconsciously and unaware 95% of our day. This results in old programming creating our lives - recreating negative patterns and negative experiences. It has been scientifically proven that if we want external changes in our lives, we need to change our internal thoughts and emotions.
Art Therapy
Art therapy uses the creative process, art materials and the completed artwork to explore subconscious processes and facilitate healing. The act of creation is relaxing for many individuals. During profound creation, many cognitive functions and intrusive thoughts are slowed and/or quieted. This allows for insight to be gained through subconscious processes that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues and false beliefs. Once these concepts are brought to awareness, the healing process can begin.
Traditional Counseling
Traditional counseling utilizes psychotherapy techniques that have been used and scientifically researched for over a century. The most commonly used therapies include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy which focuses on how thoughts influence behavior and Motivational Interviewing which focuses on helping the client explore internal motivations with probing questions to illicit and encourage change.
